March is here, which can only mean one thing… World Creative Writing Month!

This is the month when thousands of Night Zookeepers across the globe come together to reach an almighty milestone in our 5 Million Word Quest.

It’s a challenge powered by creativity, teamwork, and a true love of writing, and we can’t wait to see the incredible stories our young authors create!

What is World Creative Writing Month?

Every March, we mark World Creative Writing Month - a celebration dedicated to inspiring children all over the globe to discover the joy of storytelling and creativity.

What began as classroom visits from the Night Zookeeper team soon grew into something much bigger. As we travelled around the world, encouraging children to invent their own characters and craft unforgettable stories, we saw firsthand how powerful creative writing can be.

From there, the idea was born - why not bring young writers together for a global, month long writing adventure? What started as a simple initiative has since evolved into an international celebration of creativity, collaboration, and confidence building through writing.

Over the years, we’ve been blown away by the imaginative, original, and wonderful stories created during this challenge. After the incredible success of previous years' events, we’re more excited than ever to see what our young authors will dream up in 2026!

How does it work?

Any child with a Night Zookeeper account can take part in World Creative Writing Month. If your child doesn’t have an account yet, you can get them started here! Children are welcome to join at any time throughout the month - it’s never too late to jump into the adventure and start writing.

This month, kids come together to meet the 5 million word target through fun writing activities such as collaborative projects and imaginative prompts. The progress is tracked on the program with a real-time word counter, so kids can see what they have achieved together!

In addition to the collaborative work milestone, each child has an individual word goal that is set based on their learning level:

  • Age 5-6: 100 words
  • Age 7: 300 words
  • Age 8-9: 1,000 words
  • Age 10+: 2,000 words

Once children meet their word goal, they'll receive an exclusive badge on their profile as well as a certificate to celebrate their achievement.

Where will your child’s imagination take them? From their very first draft to the final flourish, we’ll be there every step of the way to support and inspire them.

If your child doesn’t yet have a Night Zookeeper account, you can sign up at any time during March to join the 5 Million Word Quest and celebrate World Creative Writing Month with us. Let the adventure begin!
