What is Cathy Duffy’s New Book About?

Her new book, 103 Top Picks for Homeschool Curriculum, evaluates the best homeschool programs while advising parents on curriculum building. Her book includes the latest updates in technology and the most reliable resources available.

The first half of her book focuses on teaching homeschooling parents how to identify their child’s learning approach and how to choose the best curriculum accordingly. The second half of the book helps parents identify which of Cathy’s picks will fit with their chosen teaching approach. Each program has been reviewed in-depth by Cathy, considering content, learning styles, and practical factors such as prep time and ease of use. Her book can be bought online at her website and comes as a fully interactive, downloadable PDF.

Cathy Duffy’s Review of Night Zookeeper

Out of thousands of homeschooling programs, Cathy Duffy picked Night Zookeeper as one of the best language arts programs! Night Zookeeper is a gamified homeschool program where children are encouraged to explore creativity through drawing, writing, and games while teaching vocabulary, spelling, and grammar. Our program is recommended for children aged 6-12 and we use a specific and adjustable age-based curriculum to grow with your child. By completing challenges, playing games, and navigating different writing activities, children will learn how to write in a fantastically fun way!

Cathy Duffy starts her review by saying Night Zookeeper is “highly engaging” and has an “appearance…similar to that of a high-quality gaming program with colorful characters and backgrounds”. She explains that while using our program, children draw and design their own characters and animals before writing reports and stories. The more your child plays different lessons, challenges, and games, they will collect “orbs” which helps them unlock new areas of their Night Zoo.

Night Zookeeper is considered by Duffy to have a wide range of “educationally useful activities” and “age-appropriate assignments that gradually become more challenging”. These activities range from lessons to interactive collaborative projects! Lessons have been created from our educational TV mini-series which help teach children about different writing genres, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and much more. After each lesson, activities and challenges are used to help reinforce the material. Challenges are games that help teach spelling, vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, reading comprehension, and much more. Word games help children learn to spell and identify new words. Our collaborative projects allow children to work together with common interests to create fun writing communities. These are just some examples of how Night Zookeeper makes reading and writing a fantastically fun learning experience.

In her review, Cathy Duffy highlights to parents that they are actively involved with their child’s learning and that our program offers features to manage who their children interact with. When an account is created, children are given anonymous names to protect their identity. Parents will also be given a login to a dashboard where they can monitor their child’s activity and assign lessons. Feedback on writing is provided by our tutors, other children, and the child’s parent which will keep children excited to write in a positive environment. Program settings can be adjusted to only have parents, parents and tutors, or parents, tutors, and other children on their team to leave comments on the child’s writing.

Summary

Cathy Duffy’s evaluation of Night Zookeeper placed our program in her Top 103 Picks. She says, “I expect that most students will love playing around with Night Zookeeper to practice language arts skills. The format is so much more interesting than traditional resources!”
